*20 - Areas of Need - Employees 1st Emergency Assistance Fund - Baylor S&W (2024)

As COVID-19 creates unforeseen challenges to our communities and our colleagues, we want to help alleviate some of the financial hardships our employees face. The Employees 1st Emergency Assistance Fund is available to address the unique hardships and risks posed to our frontline caregivers who are taking care of our COVID-19 positive patients or persons under investigation (PUIs) in BSWH facilities and the indirect risks that then come to their families.

Over the past few months, we have received overwhelming support from community members such as you, our senior leaders, and health system employees.Funding from the Employees 1st Emergency Assistance fund has awarded more than $2,400,000 to over 1,800 employees in need.

Because of you, we are able to provide immediate relief to our colleagues who have been directly impacted or may be incurring unexpected costs associated with COVID-19. Here are just of few of their stories:

  • One staff member was needed at home to care for her mom, the family’s source of childcare, who was diagnosed with COVID-19. While providing care for her mom, this employee was unable to work. She was forced to enroll her daughter in daycare, which was an unbudgeted expense. The Employees 1st Fund was able to provide immediate financial support for childcare as well as provide additional resources until she could return to work.
  • One Baylor Scott & White frontline caregiver has a child at home with an autoimmune disease. While the staff member is continuing to support our patients, he does not want to put his child at risk. The Employees 1st Emergency Assistance Fund was able to provide him funding for lodging so he can continue to provide for and protect his family.

The generosity and kindness you have shown through your donation are impacting our frontline staff daily. Here are just a few of the kind words they asked us to pass along to the donors who made possible:

  • Oh my goodness, I don't even know what to say other than thank you. You have no idea how much this is going to help us right now. I wish you were here so I could hug you. Thank you, thank you. And P.S., so you know, I promise you I am going to pay it forward!
  • I would like to thank you for your generous contribution that was given to our family. During this difficult time, this pandemic has impacted so many lives. But it's people like you, the great support system I have, and the team of staff I work with on a daily basis here at Baylor Scott & White that has made me a proud team member.
