The Certified SC Grown program is a cooperative effort between producers, processors, wholesalers, retailers, and the South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) to promote South Carolina products. The program's goal is to make it easy for consumers to identify, find, and buy South Carolina products.

South Carolina's top ten commodities are broilers, turkeys, greenhouse nurseries, cotton, corn, cattle, soybeans, peanuts, eggs, and wheat. There are nearly 25,000 farms in South Carolina amounting to nearly 5 million acres of farmland. Two-thirds of the land in the state is covered by forests.

The bottom line: If you see this seal displayed at a farmers market, farmstand, or your local farm, it means that the farm's practices are similar to those of a certified organic farm. The differences in the standards are minor, the main difference is in how those requirements are verified.
