Job Summary:

Employees must have received at least a meets expectations overall rating on the most recent performance evaluation.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge in security threat groups, criminal street gangs, and prison gangs. Ability to identify, analyze, and verify intelligence obtained through informants and sources; interviewing techniques and effectively communicate intelligence through memorandums and reports.

Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)

Job Duties:

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Responsible for the collection and reporting of intelligence; gather information from various sources to uncover any potential security threats or illicit activities within the facility; compile intelligence into detailed reports for command staff. Participate in cell and complex searches to uncover contraband or evidence of wrongdoing. This role requires a keen attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to analyze information effectively.

Required to travel on state business. Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment.

WORK CONDITIONS: Shift work; exposure to hazards associated with duties maintaining security, order, and discipline of inmates in and outside of an institution.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

KNOWLEDGE OF: Security, custody, and disciplinary practices and procedures in a correctional institution; Federal, State, and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing controls of inmates; methods, techniques, and practices of paraprofessional counseling and crisis intervention for inmates; principles and practices of supervision and work leadership; The use of self-defense and use of weapons and related defense and control equipment; practices and techniques of observing, detecting and defusing adverse actions by inmate populations.

SKILLS IN/ABILITY TO: Applying and interpreting security, custody, and discipline measures for an institution; applying methods and techniques of paraprofessional counseling and crisis intervention for inmates and staff; applying methods and techniques of supervising; using and training in self-defense and use of weapons and related defense/control equipment; observing, detecting and defusing adverse actions by inmates; basic first aid measures, and use of devices for self and staff protection from serious health disorders; verbal and written communications as required by the duties and assignments in a correctional setting; interpersonal relationships within a correctional setting; maintaining a calm and even temperament during emergency situations.
